KIMO Celebrating Centennial
Year-Long Programs Film, Speakers, Living History and Grand Kids Stuff

The historic KiMo Theatre has been a landmark in the streetscape of DowntownAlbuquerque and in the cultural life of New Mexico since 1927 and the early decades New Mexico statehood. This coming Centennial Year of 2012, the unique and iconic Pueblo-Deco theater is celebrating New Mexico's 100th year of statehood with a multifaceted series of programs that celebrate history, diversity and the arts. Beginning in this month four separate series will be launched:
The Film Series begins on January 18th with the screening of one of the most popular films featuring New Mexico, Easy Rider (1969), and continues with eleven additional important films – many award-winners featuring New Mexico as a backdrop, and often as the centerpiece of the story. The Film Series will close out on December 19, 2012 with the screening of No Country for Old Men (2007), which was honored with numerous awards, garnering three British Academy of Film awards, two Golden Globes, and four Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director (Joel and Ethan Coen), Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor (Javier Bardem).
The Living History Series presents chautauqua-style performances by leading area actors bringing to life the legend of the weeping woman La Llorona, Doña Tules the Gambling Queen, a Buffalo Soldier and other influential historic figures. That series begins on March 14, 2012.
The School Day Series features Native American lore and actors bringing to life important figures from New Mexico history. The series offers three programs with two presentations of each one on weekdays to accommodate the largest possible audience of Albuquerque-area students.
The Speaker Series will feature experts on a variety of related topics that range
from the mysteries of Chaco Canyon to New Mexico as a mecca for health, and many fascinating topics relating to our unique State's history. The first program is scheduled for January 11th. A total of seven programs will be presented in that series.
General admission seating for all evening programs in the Speakers Series and Living History Series is free of charge. Reserved seat tickets will be available at the KiMo Ticket Office or online at KiMoTickets.com you can also call 505-768-3522.
