Each year, we always make personal resolutions, like we are going to lose weight, we're going to the gym five days a week, we're going to save more money, etc. etc. etc. The bottom line is we usually break them. So I have taken a different approach and decided to target my closet for my New Year's resolutions for 2012.

I Shall Wear Orange

No, I'm not a graduate from the University of Texas. Simply put - orange is the most important color for spring 2012. It's all over the runways in Europe and the United States.Buy a great orange anorak for those chilly mornings and evenings for spring; get a great orange tank or t-shirt to wear with jeans; or if you're really daring buy a great pair of orange sandals and perhaps a purse.

I Will Wear Black Lace

Once again, it's seen everywhere. A black lace dress with a sheer bodice will turn heads wherever you go. If you want to be truly daring, invest in a pair of black lace palazzo pants and pair them with a silk chiffon blouse over a lovely camisole. Be sure and "amp" up your eye makeup for a sultry and sexy evening look.

I Will Buy a Long Shirtdress

Probably the most foward thinking look for spring, an ankle length shirtdress will take you to casual events to dressier events. Unbutton the front buttons as high as you dare, and couple it with some great platform wedge heels in a great color (perhaps orange?). Unbutton it all the way and wear it as a long "coat" over a skinny pair of pants and a great top. Arrange the buttons in a more demure fashion and accessorize with a great scarf and some bold jewelry and a straw hat for perfect resort wear.

I Will Wear Bright Colors

From orange to fuschia, to turquoise, yellow and purple, brightly colored knit tops and jeans are everywhere. Tropical prints in these colors will be everywhere for spring, and provide the opportunity to have fun with your casual clothing.

I Will Wear Metallic Shoes

I recently attended a daytime seminar where the emcee wore gold pumps at 8 AM. She looked great. Get a pair of gold or silver shoes and wear them often. Even better, look in your closet and see if you have some.

I Will Buy Signature Sandals

Sandals have never been prettier, and shoe designers have pulled out all the stops for spring and summer. From bones to beads, vibrant colors and leathers, seek out ONE great pair of sandals that make you feel just fabulous this year.

I Will Wear Sequins

Find yourself a casually designed sequin tank top and put it under everything!

I Will Revisit the Classics

Hopefully, I'll find a lot of these in my closet and pull them out from the back. A great navy blazer - a classic trench coat - that "perfect" crisp, white blouse, my favorite fitting jeans and that one sheath that's always ready to go. Revisit your wardrobe and find the jewels that are sitting toward the back of your closet, calling your name.
