The Bush Administration embraced Afghan warlords as allies in its quest to evict the Taliban from Kabul in 2001, a choice that has weakened the U.S.’s efforts to build a strong state and legitimate democratic institutions in that nation.

Dr. Mark Peceny, professor and chairman of the Department of Political Science at UNM, has given numerous well-received lectures on pressing current issues.

Peceny’s discussion, “Winning With Warlords in Afghanistan,” will be held in the UNM Continuing Education Building, 1634 University Blvd., NE, from 1 to 2:30 PM on March 16. Cost is $6.
